USS Tennessee and USS Arizona

Pearl Harbor

PEARL HARBOR

A day that will live in infamy - December 7, 1941

Below are some excerpts from my father's Pearl Harbor Survivor book. Fair warning some of the description of what happened is pretty graphic and disturbing.

USS Arizona

USS Tennessee

In front of the USS Arizona was the USS Tennessee. This was the ship my dad was on. A bomb dropped about 20 feet from him and it was a dud. The Tennessee was stuck between cement quays and the USS West Virginia, nick named the Weevie. The Tennessee could not move as the West Virginia was struck by torpedoes and forced the Tennessee against the cement quays. The captain had them turn the propellers on so the fire from the Arizona would not catch them on fire as well. Below is an excerpt from the Pearl Harbor Survivor book.
